BREAKING: FG Makes Thesis Submission Mandatory for NYSC Mobilization

The Federal Government has announced that, beginning October 6, 2025, all prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members must submit their undergraduate thesis or final-year project as part of the mobilization process.

The move comes under the directive of the National Education Research Database (NERD), which is now a compulsory requirement for NYSC registration.

What This Means for Graduates

  • Every graduate seeking NYSC mobilization will be required to upload their academic thesis/project to the NERD portal.
  • The measure is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s research database and ensure that academic outputs are properly documented for national development.
  • Only verified submissions will be accepted before NYSC call-up letters can be issued.

FG’s Justification

According to the Ministry of Education, the new policy will:

  • Create a centralized digital archive of academic research across Nigerian universities.
  • Help curb cases of plagiarism and duplication of projects.
  • Provide government and industries with a pool of research for policy-making and innovation.

Reactions

The policy has sparked mixed reactions:

  • Some students and recent graduates argue that the directive may delay mobilization and place extra burdens on those without digital access.
  • Others commend the move, saying it will add value to academic work and help Nigeria harness research findings for practical use.

Next Steps

The Federal Government has directed universities to begin sensitizing final-year students about the process, while the NYSC portal will be updated to integrate NERD compliance from October 6.
