A multiple-vehicle crash involving several trucks and a container-laden trailer occurred early Monday morning on the Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing massive traffic congestion and panic among road users.
Eyewitnesses report that the accident happened when a heavily loaded truck lost control, ramming into other vehicles before tipping over, blocking all lanes. The impact led to a chain collision involving multiple trucks and smaller vehicles, bringing traffic to a standstill for several kilometers.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) have since arrived at the scene to manage the situation and divert traffic. Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the Kara axis and use alternate routes through Ikorodu or Sagamu Interchange until the wreckage is cleared.
Although the number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, emergency responders say several people sustained injuries and rescue operations are ongoing.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways, has witnessed frequent accidents due to over-speeding, poor vehicle maintenance, and reckless driving — raising renewed concerns about road safety and enforcement.
