Five Persons Crushed to Death as Dangote Truck Loses Control in Ogun

 Ogun State, Nigeria — October 2, 2025

Tragedy struck in Ogun State when a Dangote truck lost control and crushed at least five persons to death along a busy highway.

How It Happened

Eyewitnesses said the truck, heavily loaded with cement, reportedly suffered brake failure before veering off the road and ramming into pedestrians and vehicles. The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, leaving the community in shock.

Local residents who witnessed the crash described the scene as horrific, with bodies trapped under the wreckage. Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), rushed to the scene to clear the debris and recover victims.

Official Confirmation

A spokesperson for the FRSC in Ogun confirmed the incident, stating:

“Five lives were lost in this unfortunate crash involving a Dangote truck. Investigations point to brake failure as the likely cause.”

The spokesperson also appealed to drivers of heavy-duty trucks to ensure proper vehicle maintenance before hitting the road.

Community Outrage

The accident has sparked outrage among locals, many of whom accused Dangote trucks of being “serial killers” on Nigerian highways. Calls are growing louder for stricter regulations and monitoring of haulage companies to prevent further tragedies.

One resident lamented:

“Every time we hear of a major accident, it’s always a Dangote truck involved. How many more lives must be lost before the government takes action?”

Broader Concerns

This is not the first time Dangote trucks have been involved in deadly crashes across Nigeria. Critics argue that poor maintenance culture, driver fatigue, and overloading are recurring factors.

The Ogun State government has promised a full investigation, vowing to hold those responsible accountable.

The Bigger Picture

For grieving families, no investigation can undo the damage. The accident is yet another grim reminder of Nigeria’s road safety crisis and the urgent need for reforms in the transport and logistics sector.
