🇳🇬 ADC Reacts to President Trump’s Military Threat to Nigeria Party Calls for Diplomacy, Warns Against External Interference in Domestic Affairs

 Abuja, Nigeria — November 2025:

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially responded to the statement attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly threatened to deploy American troops to Nigeria under the pretext of protecting Christians from ongoing attacks.

In a press release issued late Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the ADC described Trump’s remarks as “reckless, provocative, and deeply concerning,” urging the Nigerian government to handle the situation with diplomatic restraint.

“Nigeria is a sovereign nation with functioning security institutions. While we acknowledge the serious security challenges in the country, no foreign power has the right to threaten military intervention under any guise,” the statement read.

🕊️ ADC Calls for Calm and Diplomacy

The ADC called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to engage the U.S. through proper diplomatic channels rather than responding with hostility.

“The Nigerian government must avoid emotional reactions. What is required now is calm, dialogue, and strategic diplomacy. Our foreign mission in Washington must seek immediate clarification from the White House,” the party advised.

The ADC also urged both the U.S. Congress and United Nations to respect Nigeria’s internal security processes and refrain from endorsing any unilateral military threats.

⚠️ “Fix the Problem, Not the Optics”

The statement further criticized Nigerian leaders for allowing the nation’s worsening security situation to draw such international attention.

“We must fix the root causes of our insecurity. When governance fails to protect lives and property, foreign narratives will fill the vacuum. The focus should be on strengthening intelligence, ending religious killings, and restoring public confidence,” it added.

🇳🇬 ADC Urges Unity Among Nigerians

The party appealed to citizens not to panic or interpret the situation as a declaration of war, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the path forward.

“No foreign army will solve Nigeria’s problems. Only Nigerians can rebuild Nigeria,” the statement concluded.

🌍 Background

President Donald Trump had reportedly directed the Pentagon to “prepare contingency plans” for possible intervention in Nigeria, citing “religious-based killings” and the need to protect Christian communities — a claim that has sparked widespread diplomatic debate.

While the Nigerian government has condemned Trump’s comments as “based on false reports,” several political parties, civil groups, and religious leaders have continued to issue public reactions.
